Garbage, the alt-rock band fronted by Shirley Manson and featuring super-producer Butch Vig, Duke Erikson and Steve Marker, gave it a rest after 2005’s Bleed Like Me. But earlier this year, the quartet reconvened to see if the magic was still there. Thankfully, it was in spades, and Garbage is currently wrapping up what will be their fifth studio album, expected for release in March or April of next year, according to Vig.
While we anxiously await the arrival of a new Garbage album (including a single that will most certainly precede it), the band has recorded another little something for us to enjoy right now. They were invited to contribute to AHK-toong BAY-bi Covered, Q Magazine’s all-star tribute to U2’s Achtung Baby, the classic album celebrating its 20th anniversary this year with a plethora of special editions. AHK-toong BAY-bi Covered will be packaged with copies of Q Magazine’s October 31 issue, and Garbage’s recording of “Who’s Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses” is a perfect fit for the band’s still-unique sound and Manson’s unmistakable voice.
The fact that one of my very favorite bands of the ever has covered my very favorite track from Achtung Baby is almost too much for me to handle. Hear here:
