Peter Rauhofer has posted his remix of Beyoncé’s 2006 single, “Upgrade U,” to SoundCloud.
It appears that Sony had shelved the New York City DJ/producer’s remix after he submitted it. Departing from the playbook for previous B-Day singles, the label didn’t service any uptempo club mixes of “Upgrade U,” instead focusing its promotional efforts on the original album version featuring Jay-Z.
A testament to his talents, Rauhofer’s remix of “Upgrade U” is still fresh six years later. It’s hard to fathom why Sony decided to hold this one back — Beyoncé does very well with club DJs — and I imagine other remixes of “Upgrade U” were commissioned too, only to be relegated to the vault. Happy that Rauhofer is sharing his mix, however delayed, as a free download “for the broke ones.”
Plus, there’s no Jay-Z on Rauhofer’s rework, which definitely qualifies as an upgrade in my book.
