I had the pleasure of seeing Little Boots last week in San Francisco, though it’s more accurate to report that I saw the top of Victoria Hesketh’s head as she performed at The Clift Hotel (professional photoset here, in which my own noggin’ can be spotted twice).
The intimate appearance was ahead of Little Boots DJ gig in town the following night (which I did not attend). As it was an acoustic affair, the 27-year-old singer-songwriter said she couldn’t perform her new track, “Shake,” and do it justice. Disappointing, but Little Boots instead treated the crowd to a different new song, one she’d obviously deemed could handle the stripped-down translation.
I’ve no clue what it’s called or recollection as to how it was (blame the G&Ts), but one part strongly recalled Bruno Mars’ “Just The Way You Are” (or maybe Kelly Clarkson’s “Mr. Know It All). I can say I absolutely enjoyed hearing previous favorites like “Remedy” and a cover of Robyn’s “Call Your Girlfriend.”
Little Boots was right, of course, about leaving “Shake” off the setlist. Without the track’s house groove as support, the message would have little meaning. “Shake” is made for the clubs (or the private dancefloor your iPod provides):
Purchase Little Boots – “Shake” via iTunes. Free download of the Crazy P Remix via her SoundCloud, though its Balearic vibe basically proves Little Boots’ point.
