Here’s a genius way to make Beyoncé’s “Girls (Run The World)” more melodically palatable while preserving the female-empowerment edge Ms. Knowles was aiming for — pair it with Pat Benatar’s 1985 tough-girl anthem, “Invincible.”
DJ Schmolli substitutes the sample of Major Lazer’s “Pon de Floor” for the rockin’ theme from The Legend of Billie Jean, but also brings Benatar’s vocals to Beyoncé’s fight, making his version of “Girls (Run The World)” totally rule.
Fun fact about The Legend Of Billie Jean: Yeardley Smith, who played Putter in the film, is now best known as the voice of Lisa Simpson, a role she’s had since 1987. The animated 8-year-old girl is something of a feminist role-model herself.
