Perfect Storm

With the recent push to tone political rhetoric down, someone might want to speak to the youth of America about checking their harsh language too. Sure, this particular demographic is nowhere near voting age, but they’ve made their position on Selena Gomez quite clear on Twitter, being none too kind to the Disney Channel star/singer. What has she done to earn their wrath? Just the minor crime of being seen canoodling with Justin Bieber.

Gomez did something to get my attention recently as well, though it had zero to do with her connection to the “Baby”-faced popster. She and her band, The Scene, performed their new single, “A Year Without Rain,” on the People’s Choice Awards — you know, the show where you can guess who’s going to win based on the stars in attendance? Though Gomez’s vocals were a bit shaky and often too low, threatening to drown the singer in the mix, the tune still came off as a tight piece of pop, with hooks aplenty.

So I was delighted to discover that “A Year Without Rain” has been made over for the dancefloor, with a trio of mixes to choose from. If current trance-inspired electro is your thing, The Alias Club Mix has your name written all over it. Those who look fondly upon the old-school days of underground clubbing will groove to EK’s Future Classic Club Mix, with Eric Kupper (an inspired choice) turning out a fluid house take. But once again, just as he did for Cher last week, Dave Audé brings it home with a remix that hits all the right emotional notes.

Returning to the topic of some less-than-polite pre-teens, if seeing Justin Bieber photographed with Gomez was all it took to get them wound up, wait until their favorite pint-sized popster sets off Hairgate.
