Kate Boy is a new synthpop band comprised of Aussie singer-songwriter Kate Akhurst and Swedish writing/production team Rocket Boy (Hampus Nordgren Hemlin, Oskar Sikow Engström, and Markus Dextegen).
Kate Boy’s first single, “Northern Lights,” made its debut last Friday on YouTube. Swedish duo The Sound Of Arrows, no doubt tipped to it because of Kate Boy’s local connection, tweeted their stamp of approval: “Fresh new video by fresh new Swedish act that we enjoy a lot.”
The freshness being heralded by Oskar Gullstrand and Stefan Storm includes entrancing bass, Gwen Stefani-ish vocals, and a dash of Niki & The Dove. The chorus of “Northern Lights” brilliantly encapsulates the truth about pop music from Sweden: “And everything we touch, it turns to gold.”
Amazing. Maybe Kate Boy’s “Northern Lights” should be Sweden’s national anthem.
Unfortunately, YouTube is the only place to enjoy Kate Boy’s “Northern Lights” at the moment. No single release has been announced.
