Keane’s Spanish Horror Story

While Keane is introducing its forthcoming album, Strangeland, to U.S audiences via “Silenced By The Night,” they’re serving up a different track, “Disconnected,” in their native UK and Europe.

Similar geographic separation is at play for the songs’ music videos too. “Silenced By The Night” was filmed in Austin, Texas, while Keane’s new clip for “Disconnected” was shot in Spain. Directed by J.A. Bayona and Sergio G. Sanchez, who previously collaborated on the 2007 Spanish-language horror film, The Oprhanage, “Disconnected” plays as an homage to the thrills-and-chills genre.

There are some genuine scares in “Disconnected,” and Keane frontman Tom Chaplin does a decent job of being creepy in the final shot.

Pondering the distinct treatments for the “Silenced By The Night” and “Disconnected” music videos, it’s not a stretch to say that the former is focused on hopes while the latter plays on fears. Hopes and fears — that should sound familiar to longtime Keane fans.

Strangeland is out 5/8 on Cherrytree/Interscope Records.
