Last week, Kelly Clarkson‘s new single, “Mr. Know It All,” debuted at #18 on the Billboard Hot 100. Now first taste of her forthcoming album Stronger, out October 21, has fallen to #35. But today’s debut of the music video may be just the trick to get “Mr. Know It All” back on track.
Kelly’s shown singing a couple of times to a gentleman whose back is turned from camera, but it appears that the real “Mr. Know It All” is the media. The video’s main set piece is a backdrop of newspaper and magazine clippings featuring headlines both familiar (“Creative differences with label,” “Track leaked online,” “Album leaks again”), and others I don’t recall having read in relation to the singer’s career (“The win went to her head,” “Sponsors drop Kelly Clarkson”). Not that I’m proclaiming to be Mr. Know It All, by any means.
While not an original treatment (see Michael Jackson’s “Leave Me Alone”) and though it comes off as an odd choice since Kelly certainly hasn’t been lambasted by the press to the degree that some other celebs have (again, see MJ), I can’t help but be won over by seeing my favorite Texan in action. The wink alone does me in, though I suggest returning the wind machine to Beyoncé, pronto. That baby isn’t gonna fan itself coming out of the womb.
