I featured Friends a few weeks ago, after the Brooklyn quintet’s cover of Ghost Town DJ’s “My Boo” grabbed my attention. Their take on the 1996 Miami bass track serves the b-side to their own tune, “I’m His Girl,” which makes its downloadable debut today.

The music video for “I’m His Girl,” directed by Friends’ frontwoman Samantha Urbani and Aurora Halal, perfectly captures the street spirit of early ’80s New York City, complete with cassette-tape boom box. The song itself is funky, fresh, and fun — with just enough sassy ‘tude coming through in both groove and frame:
