Today is World AIDS Day, and on cue, The Killers have premiered the music video for their new single benefiting (RED), “The Cowboys’ Christmas Ball.” It’s the sixth time the Las Vegas band has delivered a festive treat for the charity that fights HIV/AIDS.
“The Cowboys’ Christmas Ball” (a cover song, as it turns out) manages to tip its ten-gallon hat to both rodeo rave-ups and raise a pint to Irish jigs. The music video continues the mash-up theme, mixing the spaghetti western with a sci-fi B-movie.
While several guns are drawn, there’s a startling lack of lasers. There is, however, eventual dancing, including a robot doing “the robot.” Brilliant. Thanks to the music video for “The Cowboys’ Christmas Ball” (directed by Robert Schober), I find The Killers’ new (old) tune more festive than I did on first listen yesterday.
Purchase The Killers – “The Cowboys’ Christmas Ball” or the (RED) Christmas EP (featuring all six of the band’s Christmas charity singles) via iTunes.
