Can’t say I know much about Gotye, other than that Adam Levine tweeted that the Australian singer-songwriter is “an incredible artist who has elevated things and raised the bar.”
I know even less about Walk Off The Earth, an indie band that hails from the Great White North. But the Canadian act has concocted an inventive cover of Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used To Know” that has the Interweb all abuzz and deservedly so.
Gotye’s breakup tune, taken from his 2011 LP, Making Mirrors, is a duet with New Zealand singer-songwriter Kimbra (of whom, once again, my familiarity is lacking). For their take on “Somebody That I Used To Know,” Walk Off The Earth called up fellow Canuck Sarah Blackwood (not of Dubstar) for female vocal duties. Watch the video and you’ll quickly discover why this cover, earning Twitter kudos from Gotye and Kimbra, is something you should know.
