‘Born’ To Debut

January 11, 2012 2 Comments

This weekend, Lana Del Rey will make her U.S. television debut on Saturday Night Live. It’s somewhat unbelievable that it’ll be her first time on the tube in her home country, considering the native New Yorker has made several such appearances across the pond.

With Del Rey’s debut album, Born To Die, not arriving until the end of the month, her label wisely released a 4-track EP to iTunes on Tuesday, ostensibly to capitalize on the curiosity that will most certainly follow her pair of live performances on Saturday from Studio 8H in Rockefeller Center. The self-titled set collects the previously released “Video Games” and “Blue Jeans” (revisit those tunes here), while adding Del Rey’s new single, “Born To Die,” and another song from her forthcoming LP, “Off To The Races” (a former free UK iTunes Single of the Week).

The music video for “Born To Die” was leaked in mid-December via a Russian website (espionage!), with the clip quickly officially posted in response. The title track to Del Rey’s album is a grand pop drama, and the song’s visual treatment makes quite the statement too, as a cautionary tale of doomed love, and specifically, for keeping one’s eyes on the road when behind the wheel.

The wild side is fine for walking, but driving on it can have fatal consequences:
