“We are finished. The record is complete. Finally.”
That’s Butch Vig, one-quarter of ’90s alt-rock amazers Garbage, uttering the words the band’s fans have been waiting years to hear. Seven very long years, to be specific. Garbage’s new album, Not Your Kind Of People, is out on May 15, via their own label, STUNVOLUME.
“We have had our fill of greedy corporate interests,” the band says of their decision to self-release their fifth studio album. “We don’t like how they do business. This time we are going to do it our way.”
In this behind-the-scenes clip of the band’s photoshoot with Autumn de Wilde, Vig, Duke Erikson, and Steve Marker share a few thoughts about Garbage’s new material as one song’s instrumental plays underneath. Alas, save for a quick laugh, the flame-haired goddess Shirley Manson utters not a sound, though she looks simply stunning, even with two tiny skulls affixed atop her head.
Recorded in Los Angeles, Not Your Kind Of People is the first Garbage album to have been recorded outside of Madison, Wisconsin. The band’s former homebase there, Smart Studios, owned by Vig and Marker, closed its doors in May 2010. The album will reportedly feature 11 songs, but the band also headed back into the studio earlier this month to record some bonus tracks. Whether those surface on deluxe editions or B-sides to singles, more Garbage is never enough. They’re my kind of band.
Garbage also announced the following European tour dates today, including several festivals:
5/09 – London, England (Troxy)
5/11 – St. Petersburg, Russia (Jubilenyi Hall)
5/12 – Moscow, Russia (Crocus City Hall)
