After a 13-year break, Luscious Jackson is back and in top form as evidenced by new single, “Are You Ready?”

The song, which premiered on Wednesday via Rolling Stone, perfectly encapsulates the Beastie Boys-affiliates’ hip-hop-meets-rock sound — the dual spoken-sung vocals of Jill Cunniff and Gabby Glaser, Kate Schellenbach’s hard-hitting drum loops, and some groovy wah-wah guitar. If the question is whether “Are You Ready?” is a worthy successor to the brilliant “Naked Eye,” the answer is an unequivocal YES. (The music video, however, will likely remain untouchable.)

Luscious Jackson is working with PledgeMusic to fund the recording of their new album, a project that’s already at 87% of its target after just three days. Side note: I had “Are You Ready?” on repeat yesterday, and couldn’t help but wonder how amazing it would have been had Madonna returned with something like this (returning to the street sounds of her New York City roots) instead of “Give Me All Your Luvin’.”
