Based on information I had this morning, I’d set my TiVo for Sinead O’Connor’s appearance on tonight’s Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Somehow those typically reliable sources had it wrong, as School Of Seven Bells is instead the musical guest. But no matter, as I can get my live Sinead fix right now, thanks to her appearance on The Graham Norton Show.
Taped earlier this week, Sinead visited the UK-based talk show to perform her new single, “The Wolf Is Getting Married.” The episode aired tonight on BBC One and will air here on BBC America tomorrow, but by the magical powers of the Interweb, you don’t need to wait.
First, Sinead sat down with host Norton for a brief chat. She showed off her mischievous side, embarrassing fellow guest Daniel Radcliffe with a story of bathtime at her house, and ripping up a photo of herself. All in good fun!
The couch bit out of the way, Sinead joined her band to sing “The Wolf Is Getting Married.” As you’ll hear, she’s in top, open-throated form, delivering one of her strongest tunes in recent memory. When Sinead is good, she’s amazing. Ferocious, even.
As the loss of Whitney Houston should remind us, let’s be thankful that Sinead O’Connor, who continues to fight her own set of demons, is still walking this earth and sharing her gift. May her joy give us joy, and her hope give us hope.
Pre-order Sinead O’Connor’s new album, How About I Be Me (And You Be You), out February 21, via iTunes. Watch the music video for “The Wolf Is Getting Married.”
