The Knocks have debuted a music video for “R.O.Y.L.,” from the New York City duo’s Magic EP, released last December.
“R.O.Y.L.,” shorthand for “Rest Of Your Life,” is my favorite moment on Magic, something of a companion piece to “Dancing With The DJ,” The Knocks’ 2010 single that makes a return appearance on their major-label debut. Both tracks are get-up-off-your-chairs good, stellar encapsulations of the duo’s electronic disco-soul sound.
Whether it’s a lack of label funding or just B-Roc and JPatt’s way of celebrating their fans, “R.O.Y.L.” is one of those “Help the band make their music video!” deals. So we get to peek into folks’ bedrooms, bathrooms, and living rooms as devotees of The Knocks lip-sync along to the song. But the finished clip isn’t entirely comprised of a cast of unknowns. Chiddy Bang, Neon Hitch, and Eliza Doolittle also get in on the fun.
Now if I could only unsee the girl giving herself a chocolate facial on webcam. What would possess you to submit footage of yourself in such a state? Thanks to The Knocks sitting this one out, I’ll probably remember that “One Girl, One (Ben & Jerry’s) Cup” scene for the rest of my life.
After several sets at SXSW, The Knocks jet off to Miami later this week for their first-ever appearance at the Ultra Music Festival. They’re performing on the mainstage on Friday, along with Skrillex, Afrojack, Benny Benassi, Martin Solveig, and Nicky Romero. With Benassi and Solveig both on the bill, might Madonna make an appearance with her MDNA producers?
