In case you missed the memo, Vincent Frank has re-adopted the Frankmusik moniker for his own solo work. (Goodbye, Vincent Did It, we hardly knew ye.) The singer-songwriter, who recently moved L.A. apartments, quit smoking, and just went platinum blond — I’m no stalker, the man’s just a prolific tweeter — has recorded a cover of Colin Hay’s “Waiting For My Real Life To Begin.”
The song originally appeared on Hay’s 1994 album, Topanga, and then in acoustic form for 2001’s Going Somewhere. Asked about the tune in 2009, the former Men At Work frontman said, “It seems to be one of those songs a lot of different people can get a handle on because we all do it. We all think that tomorrow or next week or next year everything’s going to be cool, you know?”
The song’s positive sentiment seems to match nicely with Frankmusik’s current perspective on his life and career. Swapping Hay’s guitar for a piano, he delivers a heartfelt interpretation. I don’t think Frankmusik has ever sounded in better voice, and that held note? Beautiful.
Frankmusik isn’t the only one moved by the message of “Waiting For My Real Life To Begin.” The song has been featured on a slew of television shows, including Dawson’s Creek, The Hills, What About Brian (twice), Cane, The Cleaner, Miami Medical, Brothers & Sisters, and Scrubs, which was particularly fond of incorporating Hay’s work.
