Katy Perry’s “Part Of Me” debuted at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 several weeks back, since dropping to #10 on the chart, so it’s a little odd that she’s only now premiering the music video for the single (a previous Track of the Moment).
To be fair, “Part Of Me” did just become available in the UK and Perry’s just beginning to push Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection, the expanded edition of her platinum-selling album that features the track, out on Tuesday. As for the merits of the music video, I’m not sold that an unfaithful boyfriend would lead any woman to sign up for the Marine Corps. Perry’s pop-ified “I Will Survive” anthem deserved better than being dressed in this uncharacteristically drab camouflage.
This Freemasons remix of “Part Of Me” helps matters, even if it’s not the Brighton duo’s best work. Stuart Price also joins in from across the pond, donning his Jacques Lu Cont/Thin White Duke disguise for a remix released earlier this week. More re-dos are on the way from LA Riots, DJ Skeet Skeet, and RAC.
“Part Of Me” is one of three brand-new songs on Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection, out on Tuesday. The re-release includes the album’s 12 original tracks as well as versions of “E.T.” featuring Kanye West and “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” featuring Missy Elliott, the Jon Brion-produced acoustic version of “The One That Got Away,” plus a seven-minute megamix of the album’s first six singles (five of which reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100).
