Storm Queen is the somewhat unlikely duo of New York City subway singer Damon C. Scott and producer Morgan Geist (read about their pairing here). A few weeks ago, Boy George turned me on to Storm Queen’s 2011 track, “It Goes On,” tweeting that it was a “Major TUNE!!”
The broken heart at the center of “It Goes On” makes for some lived-in house, for sure. It’s a flawless production.
Storm Queen’s 2010 debut single, “Look Right Through,” was licensed by Defected Records for a new set of remixes that were released at the end of February.
The re-rub by Marc “MK” Kinchen is my pick, as I’ve been a fan of his work since 1993, thanks to his legendary dub of Nightcrawlers’ “Push The Feeling On” and the proper house makeover he gave to Pet Shop Boys’ “Can You Forgive Her?”
Kinchen’s take on “Look Right Through” is the latest in a stream of remixes from the returning dance vet, who’d stepped away from the scene years ago to focus on studio production for the likes of Snoop Dogg, SWV, Pitbull, and Willow Smith. Today, he’s bridging the dance and pop worlds with remixes for Ellie Goulding (“Lights”) and Dev & Enrique Iglesias (“Naked”). I’m excited to have MK back.
