It remains an amazing feat that Rihanna was filmed sitting down for much of the music video for “Don’t Stop The Music,” an irresistible song that cried out for some major choreography. Even when shown on the dance floor, Rihanna delivered a surplus of hand-clapping but precious little body movement.
But holy ‘mama-say mama-sah ma-ma-ko-sah,’ what’s Rihanna doing in her new music video for “Where Have You Been,” directed by Dave Meyers? Some proper choreography!
A swamp, a cave, and the desert plains serve as substitute dance floors, but there’s our favorite Barbadian pop princess moving in sync with packs of dancers. Whilst looking as ridiculously beautiful as ever, of course. Rihanna’s got legs and (now) knows how to use ’em.
“Where Have You Been” was co-written and co produced by Calvin Harris, who you’ll recall did it all on Rihanna’s “We Found Love.” The first single from Talk That Talk spent 10 weeks at #1, while subsequent singles haven’t breached the top ten (“You Da One” came closest, stalling at #14). No surprise that Rihanna’s record label has selected “Where Have You Been” as her new single, hoping that another Harris-helmed club banger catches fire.
