Another day, another bite of Fiona Apple’s forthcoming album, The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than The Driver Of The Screw, And Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do, which officially arrives on June 19, nearly seven years after Apple’s last effort, 2005’s Extraordinary Machine.
Following first single, “Every Single Thing,” and yesterday’s premiere of “Werewolf,” today it’s “Anything We Want.” Apple originally debuted the percussive song, now track 9 on The Idler Wheel, during her SXSW showcase in March.
The industrial clanking heard at the start of the “Anything We Want” (and then throughout) reminds me of Suzanne Vega’s “Blood Makes Noise,” another left-of-center singer-songwriter I adore.
Pre-order The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than The Driver Of The Screw And Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do via iTunes.
