At this point, Dragonette could release a song in which Martina Sorbara sings Gregorian chants set to synths, and I’m sure I’d designate it a Track of the Moment without a second thought. The Canadian trio (let’s not discount the contributions of Dan Kurtz and Joel Stouffer) has proven themselves reliably good purveyors of electropop. See recent TOTM’s “Let It Go” and “The Right Woman” as absolute proof.
And so it goes with their third new tune of 2012, “Rocket Ship,” which (thankfully) has nothing to do with singing monks but which Dragonette describes as a “space-age romp.” “Rocket Ship” is set to appear on their third album, Bodyparts, arriving September 25. Listen and download below:
Along with the debut of “Rocket Ship,” Dragonette has also launched a unique competition featuring another new track from Bodyparts, “Unloveable.” Posting only the lyrics to the yet unheard song, Martina, Dan, and Joel are turning it over to the good people of the Interweb to create some sort of original representation (music, poetry, art). The winning entry will serve as the official B-side to Dragonette’s next single.
Dragonette tours the U.S. this September in support of Bodyparts. On many of the dates, they’re joined by The Knocks, making it a night out you won’t want to miss.
Finally, if “Rocket Ship” isn’t enough Dragonette for your Thursday, grab this new remix of an older fave, “Pick Up The Phone,” which they graciously tipped via Twitter this morning.
