I’m in the minority opinion that Florrie‘s “Shot You Down” is the weakest of the four songs on her otherwise excellent Late EP.
The backing track for “Shot You Down” is indeed superlative, but the lyrics are lazily repetitive. Taken as a whole, it’s an opportunity squandered, a pop sin rendered nearly unforgivable. A Popservations reader commented that the song’s middle eight is “one of the highlights on Late,” to which I reply: What middle eight?
But I will absolutely and without one iota of hesitation join the chorus that Florrie’s music video for “Shot You Down” is fantastic. Directed by Tom Gallon, the clip is a simple, yet visually arresting showcase of Florrie’s talents (drumming, singing) and beauty (stunning). Black and white, the winner every time.
