Mo’ Money For Nothing

As a born-and-bred Midwesterner, I never felt much pull in either direction during the whole East Coast vs. West Coast rap battle of the mid-’90s. Related: I’ve never much cared for rap, particularly of that time period.

But I did very much like “Mo Money Mo Problems,” The Notorious B.I.G.’s 1997 posthumous single featuring Bad Boy Records founder Puff Daddy (now Diddy) and Ma$e. I still find Ma$e’s mumbly style of rapping endearing and, of course, was won over by the sample of Diana Ross’ “I’m Coming Out” and the hook sung by an uncredited Kelly Price.

Now The Hood Internet has mashed up “Mo Money Mo Problems” with a more recent cash-concerned track, Penguin Prison’s “Don’t Fuck With My Money.” Relive those carefree moments of the summer of 1997 all over again, recast with a fresh new sound (though the “I’m Coming Out” bit has been excised):
