You might already be vaguely familiar with Jessie Ware via her collaborations with SBTRKT. After teaming up with the tribal-masked producer for 2010’s “Nervous,” last year the London singer-songwriter secured a pair of guest slots on his self-titled debut album, while also starting to step out on her own.
Ware’s first solo single, “Strangest Feeling,” appeared last autumn, with two more, “Running” and “110%,” released this past spring. Having effusively praised the electro-R&B fusion being exported by bands like Sweden’s Little Dragon (also a SBTRKT associate) and London’s Pandr Eyez, the 27-year-old pushes similarly soulful buttons, if markedly more Sade in sound and style. Ware’s full-fledged arrival on the scene thrills me very much.
While nothing Ware has released in advance of her debut album, Devotion, out August 20, has caused much of a ripple on either side of the pond, her latest offering should change all that.
Co-written with Kid Harpoon (Florence + The Machine), “Wild Moments” tones down the electro side of Ware’s previous singles while playing up the pop (check those Ryan Tedder-esque drums). The music video, directed by Kate Moross, also takes a pared-down approach. Gorgeous all around, “Wild Moments” will take you from late summer into early fall.
Purchase Jessie Ware – “Wildest Moments” via iTunes, Amazon MP3.
An indication of the fire that “Wildest Moments” is already catching, [STRANGERS] frontman David Maddox-Jones has done a solo piano cover of Ware’s new single that’s worth a listen.
