If you like Usher and Ne-Yo, but wouldn’t mind if those fellas forgot about the club for a minute — yes, Ne-Yo’s there now with new single, “Let Me Love You (Until You Learn To Love Yourself)” — check out newcomer Zephaniah.
Effortlessly blending pop and R&B as if the Cleveland, Ohio native has been doing it for years, Zephaniah’s new song, “Say You Won’t Go,” is a soulful pledge of fidelity the likes of which are in short supply in music today. Now making his home in Memphis, Zephaniah co-wrote “Say You Won’t Go” with Keenan Smith and Steven Palmer, and co-produced the track with Smith.
“Say You Won’t Go” deserves a bigger platform, for sure, and I’m happy to provide a helpful push in that direction. The chorus’ “Haja ya wewe” could become the new “Mama-say mama-sah ma-ma-coo-sa.” Or this month’s “Stimela sihamba ngamalahle.”
