Just a day after scoring a new #2 peak on the Billboard Hot 100 with “Lights,” Ellie Goulding has debuted her new single, “Anything Could Happen.” It’s the first taste of her upcoming sophomore album, Halcyon.
Like the rest of Goulding’s next set, “Anything Could Happen” was co-written and produced by Jim Eliot (Kylie Minogue, Will Young). Set to a military-style march drum beat, it’s a call to arms for optimism in the wake of a breakup. Imbued with so many wonderful little touches — the rapidly circulating notes in the bridge, for one — “Anything Could Happen” is an epic follow-up to “Lights.” The world is now Goulding’s for the conquering.
“Anything Could Happen” debuted in conjunction with this lyric video, created with the help of her fans who submitted over 1200 photos via Instagram for consideration.
“Anything Could Happen” is out August 21, and Halcyon arrives on October 9. Read more about the album here.
