Paying tribute to the late Robin Gibb, who passed away in May, Pet Shop Boys have covered Bee Gees’ “I Started A Joke.”
Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe’s new recording of the then-quintet’s 1969 #6 hit (on which Robin sang lead) is one of three B-sides included on the Pet Shop Boys’ EP for new single, “Winner,” released this past Tuesday.
The pop duo’s cover of “I Started A Joke” wraps the release following a pair of previously unreleased originals, “A Certain ‘Je Ne Sais Quoi'” and “The Way Through The Woods (Long Version).” All highly recommended, of course.
This past week, Bee Gees returned to the Billboard 200 albums chart in a big way, with 2004’s Number Ones notching a #5 re-entry thanks to a 99-cent Amazon MP3 promotion. “I Started A Joke” is on Number Ones, though I don’t know by what rubric it made the cut.
Pet Shop Boys’ new album, Elysium, is out September 11. Pre-order via iTunes, Amazon.
