BIGkids’ Two Hearts

August 27, 2012 0 Comments

Three years have passed since I last mentioned Mr Hudson, whom Kanye West had taken under his wing, predicting big things after signing the British singer-songwriter to his G.O.O.D. Music label. Back then, the platinum-haired Ben Hudson was promoting a new single, “Supernova,” featuring West, with the released of his second album, Straight No Chaser, just around the corner.

Alas, West’s dreams of superstardom for Mr Hudson did not come to pass. “Supernova” peaked at #2 on the UK singles chart but the song fizzled here, failing to breach the Billboard Hot 100. Mr Hudson did score a #10 hit on both sides of the pond the following year, singing the hook from Alphabeat’s “Forever Young” on Jay-Z’s revamp, “Young Forever.” Since then, he’s notched a couple of collaborations with other artists, and joined Jay-Z and West on “Why I Love You,” taken from the hip-hop titans’ team-up, Watch The Throne.

While there have been reports of a third album on the way from Mr Hudson — there’s even a title, Deliverance — he’s currently occupied with a new homegrown musical project. Partnering with London singer-songwriter Rosie Bones (née Rosie Oddie), the pair has christened themselves BIGkids, and true to the moniker, fun is the name of their musical game.

BIGkids released two singles earlier this year, “Drum In Your Chest” and “Supehero,” but the third time’s the charmer. Punctuated by saxophone bleats, BIGkids’ new single “Heart Sing” is an absolute delight, a song about two hearts pining for the love connection they’d stupidly skipped past.

Directed by Rosie Bones and Toby Ross-Southall, the “Heart Sing” music video offers a perfect introduction to BIGkids’ aesthetic approach to pop music. Truly, we’d all probably be a lot happier if we let go and colored outside the lines more often.

“Heart Sing” is taken from BIGkids’ debut album, Never Grow Up, coming October 7.
