Don’t Miss ‘This Kiss’

Carly Rae Jepsen has released “This Kiss,” the follow-up single to her debut #1 smash, “Call Me Maybe,” crowned the official ‘Song Of The Summer’ last week by Billboard to the surprise of no one.

What about “Good Time,” Jepsen’s single with Owl City, you say? Sure, the duet was released in between and will appear on the Canadian singer’s forthcoming U.S. debut album, Kiss, out September 18, but let’s not hold Jepsen responsible for what was obviously a cynical label/management move designed to prop up the pitiful Owl City. And a successful one, as “Good Time” is #8 on the Hot 100 this week.

All the better then that “This Kiss” is a fantastic ’80s-infused mind-eraser, the true and worthy successor to “Call Me Maybe.” Co-written by Jepsen with producers RedFoo of LMFAO and singer-songwriter Matthew Koma, “This Kiss,” suggests that she maybe digs fellow Canadian pop lovers Dragonette, though Jepsen has only name-checked Robyn, The Cars, Madonna, and James Taylor as inspiration for the sound of her album.

We have about a week to wait to see how literally that plays out on record, but right now you don’t wanna miss “This Kiss”:
