Rihanna is reportedly readying her seventh studio album for a November release, with a new single from the set coming Monday.
It’s become something of tradition for the Barbadian pop star to serve up a new full-length in the fourth quarter, having done so for three years running (Rated R, Loud, Talk That Talk). Still, the news does come on the heels of Tuesday’s release of a remix of “Cockiness (Love It)” featuring A$AP Rocky, as performed at last Thursday’s MTV Video Music Awards. So if the chatter about a new Rihanna single — based on two tweets from her label in France — is indeed true, we won’t be hearing anything further from Talk That Talk.
Too bad, since ballads like “Farewell” and The xx-sampling “Drunk On Love” really would have made great singles. Though Rihanna may be moving on, a dance-pop artist from Down Under is giving one of those overlooked tracks her attention.
Australian singer Giulietta has covered “Drunk On Love” as a stripped-down piano ballad. Her raw, emotional take only cements my belief that the song, co-written by Ester Dean (Kelly Clarkson, Nicki Minaj), is a still hit in waiting.
Giulietta released her sophomore album, 911: Code Pink, in July, available as a free download via her SoundCloud.
