On Monday, Robbie Williams premiered his new single, “Candy,” on BBC Radio 2. Co-written with former Take That bandmate Gary Barlow, the super-fun “Candy” will appear on Williams’ ninth studio album, Take the Crown, set for release in the UK on November 5.
“It’s a summer song, very much in a similar vein to ‘Rock DJ’, about a girl who thinks she’s great. And she might be, but she’s a bit nefarious with her ways. Some songs take an age to write and some songs just fall out of your mouth completely formed, and you don’t have to think about it. I don’t know why that fell out of my mouth and out of my brain at that particular time — it just did.”
Williams might consider “Candy” a summer song, but it won’t be available in his native UK until October 29, nor the U.S., where he now lives, which has been given no date at all. Many countries, however, are already enjoying the rush. (How great is that single art, by the way?)
So with just a little over a week left before summer officially ends, Williams has premiered the music video for “Candy.” Directed by Joseph Kahn, the pink-suited singer-songwriter plays guardian angel to a young lady (Skins‘ Kaya Scodelario) too wrapped up in her own world to notice.
