Swedish House Mafia — the dance music triumvirate formed in 2005 by Swedish DJ/producers Axwell, Steve Angello, and Sebastian Ingrosso — is pulling the plug after one last tour together. In a new interview with The Huffington Post, Angello explains the reasons behind the trio’s decision:
“I think we felt like it had become a very big machine. I think the pressure … It just wasn’t having fun anymore. It was this humongous monster. We felt like [sic] tired. Swedish House Mafia was never something planned, it was just like, ‘We’re three guys, let’s do this and have fun and throw parties and have a blast.’ So we just thought, ‘You know what? Let’s end this.'”
The guys are certainly going out with a bang, as Swedish House Mafia’s final single, “Don’t You Worry Child,” is my favorite. The story of a man reflecting upon his past and remembering the fatherly reassurance that everything would be all right, “Don’t You Worry Child” offers a message we can all take with us moving forward (even if it’s missing a comma).
John Martin, who sang on last year’s “Save The World,” returns to voice Swedish House Mafia’s emotional farewell. The music video is culled from clips of recent performances and some fans’ reactions to their split.
The radio edit of “Don’t You Worry Child” was released yesterday, with extended mixes forthcoming. This acoustic version is also worth a listen.
