Lana Del Rey To Be ‘Born’ Again

September 25, 2012 0 Comments

On November 12, Lana Del Rey will breathe new life into her debut album, Born To Die, via an expanded release dubbed The Paradise Edition that offers eight new songs alongside the original 15 tracks. (Like Lady Gaga’s The Fame/The Fame Monster, Paradise will be available for separate purchase.)

Besides her H&M-approved cover of “Blue Velvet,” among the new tunes on The Paradise Edition is “Ride,” a lush, strings-backed production from Rick Rubin. While he most recently shepherded Adele’s 21 into a multi-platinum monster, I don’t expect Del Rey to reap similar riches with her born-again Born To Die. That the epic “National Anthem” didn’t become one this summer is a national tragedy (though the music video, which reminded us of a truly terrible one, probably didn’t help matters).

For better or worse — and I do believe that the original Born To Die is one of 2012’s best albums — I think Del Rey is destined to remain a niche artist in the pop world. And really, what’s wrong with that?

Here’s the tracklisting for Paradise:

01 “Ride”
02 “American”
03 “Cola”
04 “Body Electric”
05 “Blue Velvet”
06 “Gods And Monsters”
07 “Yayo”
08 “Bel Air”

Listen to the Paradise sampler below — Del Rey gets down and dirty on “Cola” — and head over to SPIN for full release details, including a deluxe box set:
