Encountering spinworthy new music is akin to a religious experience, and so it goes with the fittingly named Chvrches, a new synthpop trio from Scotland.
Lauren Mayberry, Martin Doherty, and Iain Cook deserve every bit of rapturous praise they’ve been receiving this year since the release of two singles, “Lies,” and the newest, “The Mother We Share.” Mayberry’s high-pitched voice more than holds its own against some towering synths.
Chvrches didn’t have far to scout to find someone to remix “The Mother We Share,” ringing up fellow Scotsmen Miaoux Miaoux and JD Twitch of Optimo:
Chvrches are currently opening for Passion Pit on their UK tour, kicking things off last night in Dublin. Avowed fans of Prince, I wonder if their cover of “I Would Die 4 U” is in the setlist.
