Hold on, has it really been ten years since Kelly Clarkson was crowned the first winner of American Idol?
Acknowledging the anniversary last month with a concert performance of her #1 victory song, “A Moment Like This,” now the 30-year-old Clarkson is celebrating the milestone in a bigger way — a forthcoming greatest hits set that features three new songs.
One of those new tunes, “Catch My Breath,” premiered this morning on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show. Written by Clarkson with her musical director Jason Halbert and producer Eric Olson, it’s fitting that “Catch My Breath” is the first single from the creatively titled Greatest Hits – Chapter 1. The song was specifically inspired by the road the singer’s traveled over the last decade.
“This song represents who I’ve been, what I’ve felt, and where I’m headed as not only an artist but as a 30-year old that is now smart enough to know that it’s time to stop, catch my breath, and be proud of not only what has been accomplished but of all the people that have helped me become the woman I am today,” Clarkson notes on her website. “Here’s to another decade of passion and fun!”
For those anticipating another “A Moment Like This” ballad to bookend these ten years already gone, “Catch My Breath” isn’t quite that. It’s a sparkling midtempo pop tune that allows Clarkson room to show off her pipes while having some of that fun she expects from her career as it continues onward.
Kelly Clarkson – “Catch My Breath” is out October 16.
