Girls Aloud Return With ‘Something New’
October 19, 2012 1 CommentComing off a three-year hiatus, Girls Aloud are back with something new, a single that is also called “Something New.” A stroke of pop genius right there, courtesy the British girl group’s longtime collaborators, Xenomania.
“Something New” is one of four new tracks that will appear on Girls Aloud’s second hits collection, Ten, which not so coincidentally celebrates a decade since the group was formed on Popstars: The Rivals, a TV talent competition. They’re also embarking upon a UK tour in February and March.
On first listen, I didn’t feel “Something New” was something special, but exchanging my iPhone speaker for my laptop and some decent headphones, I’m sold. Since I’ve never been disappointed by a Xenomania production, I’m happy their track record of spotless pop remains unsullied. “Something New” is no “Call The Shots” (what can ever be?), but Girls Aloud’s new tune is as hook-filled as you’d expect. The last bit is the best: “We’re the leaders of the pack. Boy, you’d better watch your back!”
The music video for “Something New,” directed by Ray Kay, premiered today:
