Diamond In The Rough

Diamond Rings goes glitter and glam free in the new music video for “Runaway Love,” a track from the Toronto electropop artist’s new album, Free Dimensional, out now.

Filmed at a racetrack just outside Montreal, Diamond Rings mixes it up with gearheads, bodybuilders, and other razor’s edge-riding souls (including the newly YOLO-tattooed) as if it’s how he typically spends a relaxing weekend afternoon.

I’ve seen Diamond Rings do his thing on stage twice over the past couple of months — most recently on Saturday night, opening for Stars — and I’ve been impressed at what a polished performer the Toronto electropop artist has become.

Whether playing a shoebox-sized spot that can barely contain John O’Regan’s 6-foot-4-inch frame or taking the stage of an iconic venue like San Francisco’s legendary Fillmore, he’s committed to giving the crowd his all. Even better, you can tell he’s having fun. And based on the audience response to new tunes like “Runaway Love,” the shift from the lo-fi pop of his debut to a bolder synth sound on Free Dimensional, assisted by co-producer Damian Taylor (Björk, The Killers, Robyn), is giving Diamond Rings the chance to shine brighter still.
