After electronic duo French Horn Rebellion provided onstage support to Jody Watley at an L.A. gig, brothers David and Robert Perlick-Molinari shared their Next Jack Swing vision with the pop/R&B diva and enlisted her participation.
The resulting collaboration, “Cold Enough,” appears on French Horn Rebellion’s new EP, Love Is Dangerous, out Tuesday. Watley isn’t the set’s only guest though. JPatt of The Knocks pitches in on the title track, as does some chap called Fat Tony.
Shared Midwestern roots made their musical bond between Watley and French Horn Rebellion even stronger — she was born in Chicago, while the siblings call Milwaukee home. “We were in California, dreaming about the winters up north in Milwaukee and Chicago, so we decided to make a dance to help all those people get warm,” the FHR sibs say.
Hearing Watley on something new is still a thrill, and “Cold Enough” does the singer proud. “The track combines classic, new, hot, and cold in a way that makes want to move,” she says. “It was a blast to collaborate on this!”
