2020 is shaping up to be a big year for twin-sister duo Tegan and Sara.
The pair has been getting lots of enthusiastic press for their seventh studio album, Heartthrob, on which they explore poppier territories with help of producers like Greg Kurstin (Kelly Clarkson, P!nk). The set arrives January 29, but several tracks are streaming now on Tegan and Sara’s SoundCloud alongside last year’s stellar advance single, “Closer” (#10 on Popservations’ Top 100 Tracks of 2012).
Tegan and Sara also landed a plum spot on the recently released soundtrack to HBO’s Girls, Lena Dunham’s tour de force that took home two Golden Globes last Sunday. Their contribution to the cool kids’ club is a cover of The Rolling Stones’ “Fool To Cry,” the lead single from 1976’s Black And Blue. Produced by RAC, the Quin Twins’ soft-rock revision of The Glimmer Twins’ bluesy ballad (a #10 hit) is an atmospheric beauty with a mischievous glint of a wink (“Daddy, what’s wrong?”).
Purchase Tegan and Sara – “Fool To Cry” (The Rolling Stones cover) via iTunes, Amazon MP3 (available only by purchasing the whole Girls, Vol. 1 soundtrack).
