Turn It Up

Some updates to recent Popservations:

America, idling: Tonight we see if Paula Abdul remains forever our girl. Far more familiar today as an American Idol judge than a former pop star, Paula gets additional super-sized exposure on Fox with her new Randy Jackson-produced single, “Dance Like There’s No Tomorrow.” The network’s pre-game coverage of Super Bowl XLII is expected to feature a “live to tape” performance from Ms. Touchdown and a team of dancers. Sans MC Skat Kat or cold-hearted snake, can Paula charm America all over again?

Updating the update — Here’s the performance, in case you missed it:

You gotta have faith: Fellow fallen chart-angel George Michael enjoyed some tube time on Thursday night, appearing as himself on the new ABC series, Eli Stone. While the pilot episode was packed with exposition, it was amusing and unique enough to be worthy of a TiVo Season Pass (One big draw: the always-terrific Loretta Devine). George is set to make a few more appearances, too (the next four episodes are named for his songs). Looks like series creator/writer Greg Berlanti might go three-for-three on ABC (Brothers and Sisters, Dirty Sexy Money).

Watching it for the articles: Caught the first few minutes of TLC’s revamped Trading Spaces, where everything old is new again. Original host Paige Davis is back (more perky than you remember) and several of the original designers have returned as well. Frank and Laurie were featued in Saturday’s episode (never favorites of mine). I’m holding out for a future Hildi and Doug showdown.

Juno, that’s a pretty good flick: Juno has a date with Oscar. The little-movie-that-could is nominated for four Academy Awards: Best Picture, Best Director (Jason Reitman), Best Actress (Ellen Page), and Best Original Screenplay (Diablo Cody). I think Cody’s definitely going home with the golden guy. News seems good for the Feb. 24 telecast, too; the Writers’ Strike may be ending this week.
