Queen’s Cross

I knew that when Beyoncé introduced Tina Turner as “The Queen” during the 2008 Grammy telecast, at least one other musical icon in attendance wouldn’t be applauding: Aretha Franklin. If the Queen of Soul can’t get a little R-E-S-P-E-C-T at the Grammys, well..

No offense to Tina Turner, whose performance of “Proud Mary” proved she could still turn it out at 68. (If she ever takes those legendary gams on tour again, I’m there, anytime, anyplace.) But there’s only one Queen, and it’s Aretha. Either there’s a show writer whose script went unchecked, or Miss Knowles needs some schooling in music history. (“You must not know ’bout me,” indeed.)

Franklin is not happy, but perhaps Beyoncé can mend fences by offering her some sartorial style advice. Because a true queen should know better than to attend the royal ball in a yellow king-size bed sheet. (The aqua frock pictured above is an equally baffling choice.)
