It’s likely unintentional, but Texas frontwoman Sharleen Spiteri seems to be following the path forged by fellow Scotswoman Annie Lennox.
After Texas went on hiatus in 2005, Spiteri made her solo debut with 2008’s stellar, soul-soaked set, Melody. Then, as Lennox did after Diva with Medusa, Spiteri followed up her album of originals with a covers set, 2010’s The Movie Songbook (produced by the late Phil Ramone).
Post-Medusa, Lennox reunited with Dave Stewart for a new Eurythmics album, 1999’s Peace, the synthpop duo’s eighth album. Now Spiteri has rounded up her Texas bandmates for The Conversation — also their eighth album — to be released on May 20. Listen to the slow-burning title track, featuring a bit of a real live Texas twang to boot:
