Avril Lavigne – “Here’s To Never Growing Up”

Avril Lavigne’s last album, 2011’s Goodbye Lullaby, went gently into the goodnight with not a single top 10 hit — “What The Hell,” a Max Martin and Shellback production, stalled out at #11 — but the Canadian singer-songwriter hasn’t quite given up on catchy singalong pop.

“Here’s To Never Growing Up,” co-produced by Martin Johnson of Boys Like Girls (with Lavigne’s fiancé, Nickelback’s Chad Kroeger, among those getting a writing credit), is an endearingly feisty number on which Lavigne raises a glass to remaining forever young. In addition to subject matter, there are echoes of Ke$ha in Lavigne’s vocals.

The song’s chorus, however undeniable, does beg the question: Who really sings Radiohead at the top of their lungs? (Someone who’s never listened to Radiohead, I imagine. Looking at you, Kroeger.)
