Power to the Peeple

March 23, 2008 0 Comments

Ah, Peeps. The colorful marshmallow confections have been around for decades, but are particularly popular during spring (the candy magic first began with the now-ubiquitous yellow chicks). Today though, people are purchasing Peeps for playing as much as eating.

Just Born, the makers of Peeps, doesn’t quite care as long as their sugary chicks, bunnies, eggs, and tulips are moving off store shelves. But to encourage these more creative explorations, the company is hosting a video contest. See how Peeps make it work in the real world, or in reality TV competitions, anyway.

Peeps have already starred in countless books (including a recent craft-and-recipe extravaganza), showing the versatility of these seasonal treats. And all over the interwebs, you’ll find Peeps showcased in surprising ways, from artful snapshots and mock magazine covers to dioramas. There’s even Peeps Jousting (seriously).

If you’re feeling similarly inspired, stock up on Peeps tomorrow when they’ll likely be on clearance. Grab some for next year and the year after that; like Cher, Peeps are an seemingly indestructible part of pop culture, built to outlast all of us.
