Footloose, Fun Dip, and The Incredible Mr. Limpet. Three disparate pieces of pop culture that have come up while talking with friends this week.
Last night, “Summer Girls” by LFO joined the conversation. Remembering the mention (but not the reason) this morning, I took a closer look at the lyrics to the Lyte Funky Ones’ #3 hit from 1999. Among the song’s many clunky rhymes are references to Footloose, Fun Dip, and The Incredible Mr. Limpet.
The world works in very mysterious ways, indeed:
“Summer Girls” seems so earnest in its execution, though LFO’s songwriter/lead singer Rich Cronin claimed it was a never-meant-to-be-issued demo. While the song’s pretty laughable on its own, someone penned a parody that’s even funnier.
