XXXY got my attention in February after the Manchester producer (real name Rupert Taylor) sampled Kim English’s “Missing You” for his house track, “Get Ready.”

Amazingly, Taylor has returned to the very same well, once again sampling the Chicago club diva’s 2000 club hit for a brand-new number, “Thinkin Bout.” And once more, his choice has me chatting about XXXY here.

English’s pitched-down vocals don’t come in until about two minutes in:

“Thinkin Bout” is the flipside to XXXY’s latest single, “Progression,” which he describes thusly: “The A side is an arpy thing with bass [and] the flip is a vocally thing with bass. They both contain breakdowns — please don’t hold this against me.”
