Going It Alone

In the days when physical product was the only way to purchase dance music, I’d often pick up an unfamiliar artist or untested track simply because it was released on a label whose previous output I enjoyed (Twisted America, Strictly Rhythm, Star 69). That association is, of course, rarer these days, as digital displays of cover art have gotten smaller and labels recede even further from sight.

But one label that’s consistently hitting it out of the park today for me is Nurvous, the indie-dance offshoot of one of those longtime go-tos, Nervous Records. Moon Boots’ “Aretha” and Gigamesh’s “Enjoy” are two tracks I’ve featured in the past year-plus.

Now here comes “Alone” from WD2N (We Drive 2 Night), a deep house duo made up of Brazil’s Yuri Lima and Slovenia’s Ivan Kovaček. I haven’t been able to pinpoint the source of the fantastic vocal sample (a clue here perhaps), but “Alone” definitely deserves some close company.

Germany’s Ben Weber brings a vibey lounge feel to his remix of “Alone”:
