At first glance, the title to Tesla Boy‘s “M.C.H.T.E.” doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue. But once you catch the lyric about “the girl with a knife,” the choice of letters becomes clearer.

It’s something of a fake-out because the music that Tesla Boy makes on “M.C.H.T.E.” — the second single from the Russian band’s new sophomore album, The Universe Made Of Darkness — is far from threatening, a fantastic melange of New Wave, percussive funk elements, and a sample I haven’t yet successfully placed. (Thought it was Pebbles, but do believe it’s from the same pop/R&B era.)
