While Messrs. Tennant and Lowe are missing in action from the video — a disappointing trend that seems to have taken hold — filmmaker and photographer Joost Vandeburg has cobbled together amateur film footage from late ’80s British raves as well as some taken at Manchester’s infamous Haçienda nightclub.

In a post on Pet Shop Boys website, they write: “The video (and the song) was inspired by the way British youth at this time found its own freedom with a new culture epitomised by dance music and raves: ‘It’s in the music/It’s in the song/And the feeling of the warmth around us all is so strong.'”

I’ve got a good sense of what might be causing that strong feeling of warmth. Also, I can’t help but wonder what all of these former ravegoers are up to these days.

Still awaiting details on remixes of “Vocal.” A CD single and 12″ vinyl release is planned for July 22, with a digital bundle also in the works.
